ADMINISTRATION

  • CHECK-IN:  On check-in at Jameson West, participants will be assigned to one of five “tribes” or “clans.”  Campsites will be assigned then, based on the order that your unit has pre-registered.  The earlier you register, the closer you’ll be to the parking lot.  All vehicles are restricted to the parking lot at all times.

  • PRACTICE SCOUT SKILLS:  Troops are encouraged to practice their basic Scout skills before coming to the camporee – lashings, knot tying, fire building, fire safety, axe and knife safety, cooking, and teamwork.

  • COMPASS REQUIRED:  Each participant MUST bring a compass to participate in the orienteering event.

  • SKIT:  Troop SPLs should have a campfire skit ready to be presented at the SPL meeting Friday night.

  • FOOD:  Troops will bring their own food.  Meals will be cooked and eaten at the troop’s campsite.

  • BATTLE ROYALE:  Water balloons for the Battle Royale will be provided, but troops should bring a container(s) to transport their filled balloons to the event site.  Everyone will pitch in to clean up the site after the battle is over.

  • GOLDEN AXE RELAY:  Units competing in the Golden Axe Relay on Sunday will bring their own woods tools and skillet.  Units MUST produce a Firem’n Chit and a Totin’ Chip for EACH participant or it will not be allowed to compete.

REGISTRATION

IT IS HIGHLY ENCOURAGED THAT TROOPS PRE-REGISTER.

Good planning and financial management of a big event requires an accurate headcount.  Walk-ins can wreak havoc, and we are trying to actively discourage these.

Pre-registration

Cost for pre-registered units is $10/person.  Units should send a letter indicating the number of people participating and a check made payable to “Venture Crew 9236” to:

Jerry Andrews

3833 Whitney Place

Duluth, GA  30096

Letters and checks must be postmarked NO LATER THAN April 15 OR hand-delivered to the Button Gwinnett roundtable meeting on April 19 (Christ Church Episcopal, 400 Holcomb Bridge Rd., Norcross 30071).

Units that pre-register will be given priority campsite selection in the order that they register.  They will be guaranteed a special camporee “buff” (neckerchief) that each participant will wear during the weekend to indicate his “tribe” or “clan” affiliation.

Late registrations or walk-ins

Units that register late or show up without a reservation will be charged $25/person.  These units will be given any remaining campsites and their participants will not receive a buff.

DO NOT register through the council office.  They won’t know what to do with your registration, and you will end up NOT being registered.
