EAGLE
SCOUT ADVANCEMENT PROCEDURES
REFERENCE: All Life Scouts and Leaders must be familiar
with: Eagle Scout Advancement Requirements (Boy Scout Handbook, Advancement
Requirements Handbook) Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook (#18-927)
Eagle
Scout Application (#512-728) Atlanta Area Council Life to Eagle Guide
PROJECT PLAN APPROVAL: After approvals have been obtained
from the representative of the organization to benefit; from the Scoutmaster
and from the Committee Representative (Chairman or Advancement Member);
the project plan must be submitted to the District Advancement Committee,
in care of the Chairman, for approval.
The Project Plan must be delivered to the Button Gwinnett District
Advancement Chairman,
Mr. Richard Potts, 472 Lakeshore Dr, Berkeley Lake, GA 30096 . If you have any questions, you may contact Mr.
Potts by phone at 770-446-8877, or by
e-mail: crpsks@bellsouth.net
If the scout makes changes in the scope after initial approval, such
changes must be approved by the Advancement Chairman, prior to work on
said changes. The Eagle candidate must remain in communication with the
Advancement Chairperson throughout the project work in order to ensure
continuity, and that all plans and aspects of the project remain accurate.
NOTE: No work can begin on the project until
the District approves the plan!
TRAINED ADULT SUPERVISION
Policy requires at least two trained adult leaders be present at all
times during any Scouting activity. At
least one of them must have 'Youth Protection' certification. It is
your responsibility to ensure that this policy is followed. Don't assume
that the right people will just 'be there' -- arrange, in advance, for
them to be there. You should state how you will ensure this in your plan.
APPLICATION APPROVAL: After all of the Eagle Scout requirements
are met, the completed application and all supporting documents must be
submitted to the Atlanta Area Council office for review. After the application
has been reviewed, it will be returned to the Unit Committee Chairman;
and a copy will be sent to the District Advancement Chairman.
BOARD OF REVIEW: After the approved application is returned,
the Committee Chairman will notify the District Advancement Chairman, and
an appointment will be made for the Eagle Scout Candidate's Board of Review.
District Boards of Review will be conducted monthly (Time & Place as
arranged by District Advancement Chairman)
LETTERS OF REFERENCE: Reference letters addressed to the
Chairman, Eagle Board Of Review, in care of the Troop Committee Chairman,
should be requested by the Eagle Candidate for each of the references listed
on the Eagle Application. Additional letters beyond those listed are welcome,
but not required. The unopened, sealed letters
of reference are to be delivered to the Chairman of the Eagle Board of
Review when convened. They become the property of the board of review and
will not be returned.
The Troop Committee will participate in the Board of review, providing
at least two representatives who are eligible to sit on the Board. Relatives,
Scoutmasters, or Assistant Scoutmasters are not permitted to sit on the
Board. However, it is not necessary for all board members to be registered
Scouters. Other Community or religious leaders may participate, as long
as they understand and adhere to the principles of Scouting and recognize
the significance of the Eagle Scout rank. The Scoutmaster or another adult
leader should present the Scout to the Board. There will be three to six
members on the Board, at least two of which must be members of the District
Advancement Committee.
SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION: After the Board has recommended
approval of the Scout's application, the Troop will be responsible for
returning the application to the Atlanta Area Council office. Only the
signed Eagle Scout Application Form need be returned.
